Children play yesterday in front of an installation at the Shenzhen Universiade Center, the venue for Longgang District's Spring Festival flower fair. The fair opens today.

A highlight of the city's New Year celebrations, the highly anticipated 2025 Shenzhen Spring Festival Flower Fair opens today, offering a perfect opportunity for residents to shop for New Year goods.

All districts in the city, as well as Dapeng New Area and the Shenshan Special Cooperation Zone, are hosting a flower fair this year. Collectively, they are referred to as the 2025 Shenzhen Spring Festival Flower Fair, which will run through Jan. 28, Chinese New Year's Eve.

There are around 4,000 flower stalls in the city this year, according to the city's urban management authority.

This year, the Aiguo Road flower fair recreates an iconic traditional archway from its 2015 edition. The fair features 339 stalls spread across seven themed zones, including a dedicated area for pets — a first in its history.

According to Hu Shiyang, the superintendent of the pet zone, it aims to not only provide festive pet products but also create an interactive space where visitors can engage with pets.

A stall owner surnamed Liu told Shenzhen Daily that he wished he could achieve stronger sales at the fair.

Yesterday, staff were seen debugging a humanoid robot, which they said would be used to interact with the public and provide guidance services.

Although the fair had not yet opened yesterday, many citizens had gathered at the entrance for a preview. A visitor surnamed Nie expressed his excitement about bringing his family to the fair to experience Guangdong-style New Year celebrations. This year is the first time Nie has invited his parents to spend the holiday in Shenzhen.

This year, Longgang District set up its venue at the Shenzhen Universiade Center. Yesterday, stall owners were seen making final preparations for the opening. A stall owner surnamed Tang expressed optimism about attracting a steady flow of customers, given the venue's proximity to the large MixC Universiade World shopping mall and a Metro station.

To further stimulate consumer spending, this year's Spring Festival Flower Fair has introduced new elements such as drone delivery services, drone displays, and national intangible cultural heritage performances.

Citizens can check the WeChat account “美麗深圳” (beautiful Shenzhen) for information on the locations of flower fairs across the city.
