A launch ceremony for a pilot testing platform for new optoelectronic materials and imaging devices took place at the Shenzhen Park of the Hetao Shenzhen-Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Cooperation Zone yesterday.

Approved by the Guangdong Provincial Development and Reform Commission in May 2024, this project, spearheaded by the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), will focus on the preparation, packaging, and testing of innovative optoelectronic materials and imaging devices.

Setting sights on global markets, the platform's primary mission is to expedite the adoption of optoelectronic innovations, transforming them from laboratory research and development into impactful engineering applications on a large scale.

This forward-looking endeavor is expected to produce a continuous stream of top-tier scientific and technological breakthroughs that will drive the growth of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA).

Pilot testing involves rigorously evaluating the transition of products from controlled lab settings to practical engineering applications, ensuring the feasibility of industrial-scale production — a critical step in turning scientific discoveries into real-world productivity.

The platform is poised to catalyze advancements in technological innovation and bolster industrial progress in the field of optoelectronic materials and imaging devices in Guangdong Province.

This project includes three essential components — a macro-scale preparation platform for cutting-edge optoelectronic materials, a preparation and packaging platform for innovative optoelectronic imaging devices, and a testing platform for verifying imaging quality and reliability while catering to a diverse array of optoelectronic imaging application needs.

The launch of the platform marks a pivotal moment in realizing national, provincial, and municipal governments' decisions and plans regarding the construction of pilot testing platforms. It aims to elevate Guangdong's independent innovation capabilities and international competitiveness in the realm of optoelectronic imaging devices, propelling the province to become a leader in industries such as new materials and optoelectronics.

In the future, the Shenzhen Park plans to introduce more policies to support pilot testing platforms, explore the setup of government-led, market-operated pilot testing funds, and continue its dedication to establishing itself as a significant pilot transformation hub within the GBA.
