Education bureau's efforts on AI-empowered education
From: Education Bureau of Shenzhen Municipality

The Shenzhen Municipal Education Bureau has provided 923 primary and junior middle schools with multiple AI learning platforms. Last year, three platforms (Tencent, UBTECH, and SenseTime) were offered, and this year, the number of platforms has increased to seven (including iFlytek). The bureau welcomes service providers with the capability and curricula that align with the national curriculum standards to join and serve Shenzhen's primary and junior middle schools.

Currently, the bureau has built the Shenzhen Education AI platform. The seven AI learning platforms, through integration with the Shenzhen Education Public Service Platform, have achieved single sign-on. Teachers can log in to view the course resources of each platform, compare the distinctive features and advantages of different platforms, and choose the platform that best suits their school's needs.

Teaching staff is a crucial breakthrough in promoting AI education. To this end, the bureau has established a diversified AI education system for teachers. First, it has strengthened the training of full-time teachers, primarily selecting teachers from information technology, integrated practice, and science disciplines to serve as full-time AI education teachers in the future. On the other hand, the bureau has leveraged AI experts from research institutes, universities, and science museums to provide a richer pool of out-of-campus teachers for teaching in schools.

In addition, last year, the bureau solicited requested AI education application scenarios from districts and schools, receiving a total of 115 scenarios from 90 departments and schools. The content covers intelligent education environments, intelligent education evaluation, intelligent learning processes, intelligent teaching assistants, and intelligent educational governance.

Outside of schools, the bureau has organized educational field trips to AI exhibition halls, opening up corporate non-profit exhibition halls to primary and secondary schools. Students can experience and learn about AI through these field trips. Last year, the first batch of exhibition halls was solicited, and this year, the Shenzhen Municipal Education Bureau and the Municipal Bureau of Industry and Information Technology jointly issued a document to solicit non-profit AI educational field trip exhibition halls for primary and secondary schools. At the same time, a reservation system platform has been established, allowing schools to view and book visits to AI exhibition halls through the system.
