A three-month lantern carnival commenced at the Splendid China ? China Folk Culture Villages theme park in Nanshan District over the weekend, heralding the upcoming traditional Chinese festivals such as New Year's Day, the Spring Festival and the Lantern Festival.
This marks the fifth year in a row that the scenic spot has hosted a lantern carnival. This year's event sees the entire park illuminated for the first time, featuring seven lantern viewing zones across a 520,000-square-meter area.
Themed around mystical and fantastical Oriental mythologies, the carnival has enlisted approximately 100 intangible cultural heritage masters from Zigong, a city in Sichuan Province known for its rich lantern-making history. The lanterns are designed around seven major themes: Chinese Zodiacs, Journey to the West, Ancient Fantasy, Mysterious East, Brilliant City That Never Sleeps, Delicacies Under Colorful Lanterns, and Starlight City. These installations aim to immerse visitors in the lantern carnival while showcasing the unique allure of traditional Chinese culture.
Throughout the event, the theme park will stage over 10 performances highlighting traditional Chinese culture, along with grand float parades every day.
